When a DM Turns Into a Dream Shoot

When Laura Fitzgerald slid into our DMs asking if we would head to Rhinefield House for a Dark Enchantment shoot, we had to say yes. Even though we had to figure out travel (because my car was seriously not playing ball that month), I was determined to make it work — even if I was nervous it might break down en route.

Spoiler: it held on for the way there... but not for the way home! Hahaa.

What is Summerween? Our Alternative Wedding Design Deep Dive

We had never heard the term ‘Summerween’ before, so naturally, I went down a serious rabbit hole trying to figure out what it meant. There was nothing online that really explained it! Thankfully, the moodboard Laura sent over was an absolute lifesaver and gave us the direction we needed.

We knew immediately that a black base would be too heavy — it would steer the look too far into classic Halloween territory, which wasn’t the goal. Instead, we leaned into the reds from the palette and built everything up from there.

Designing an Alternative Halloween Wedding Tablescape

The hero pieces?

Those amazing wicker placemats with orange petal edges — perfect for keeping things summer-y while adding an alternative flair.

Heart cut-outs scattered across the table — filling space is key! An unfinished table just doesn’t feel right, and honestly, more is more when it comes to statement styling.

The red linen base gave a rich, vibrant foundation, and we layered on pops of pink, orange, and black to create a luxe but playful vibe — a little spooky, but mostly stylish.

Disco Balls, Velvet Pumpkins, and the Power of the Plinth

For the ceremony area, our trusty plinths made another appearance (at this point, I think they’re becoming our signature!). They are so versatile — perfect for grounding flowers, candles, disco balls, and whatever magic we dream up.

And yes, we absolutely had to include the velvet pumpkins. They were just too cute, and they matched the colour palette so perfectly it would have been a crime not to.

The combination of bold florals, shimmering disco balls, and tiny gothic details like skulls and candles created a ceremony space that felt enchanted and a little mischievous — the ultimate alternative wedding vibe.

Summerween Wedding Styling for the Win

This Dark Enchantment shoot at Rhinefield House was the perfect example of how you can create a Halloween-adjacent wedding without it feeling too "theme party." With the right styling — think disco balls, bright blooms, and playful touches — you can capture all the magic of Halloween and the vibrancy of summer.

Alternative weddings are our absolute passion, and this shoot shows how you can mix spooky, stylish, and fun into one unforgettable celebration.

We’re obsessed — and we hope you are too.
