Incorporating touches of darkness in your wedding decor can add that feel of luxe; that moodiness that matches your personality. Which I’m gathering you’re after!

Even if your wedding reception is held in a white room, you can still add your moody stamp to the tables.

It’s just about balance.

Venue Selection

First things first – let's talk venue. Whether you're envisioning exchanging vows in a centuries-old castle or surrounded by the natural beauty of a woodland or a charming barn, choosing the right setting is key to creating the perfect atmosphere for your dark wedding.

You’re going to want to look for locations with character and charm, where every corner whispers secrets and stories of ages past. A venue that suits a darker vibe - a bright summer marquee may not be the best option.

Adding The Darkness

Dark wedding decor is all about creating an atmosphere that captivates the senses and stirs the soul.

Table Settings

Set the scene for your wedding feast with tablescapes that are as beautiful as they are atmospheric.

Choose darker linens, elegant dinnerware, and sparkling glassware to create a sense of opulence and refinement.

Think about using black napkins paired with a gold charger plate and dark velvet runners.

And we all love candles, so think, ‘Do I want a modern candlestick?’
Does that match your vision or do you see a vintage brass candlestick?

Should I go for the black taper candle? Btw, the answer is always yes. But pair it with another 1 off colour in a cluster of 3.

White, Pink, Purple or Grey are fabulous choices. Or even orange if your wedding is around Halloween.

Dark Green candles look amazing, but they can look lost amongst your flowers. And Red. You have to be careful with Red as it can bring out the Christmas vibes - unless that's the vibe you’re after!

Your bud vases for your flowers, what could you use instead of glass? Ink Bottles come to mind or what about a Vintage Teapot for a bowl arrangement style for the table? Those vintage copper kettles could look amazing! - Jotting that down for a design…..

And to finish your tablescape and to make your guests go WOW, add personal touches such as custom place cards, handwritten notes. Design them in your colour scheme and add ornate touches for a more gothic vibe or keep it minimal for a more modern look.

Decor Elements

When it comes to decor, think bold and dramatic! Choose statement pieces that command attention, such as a ‘board’ with a neon sign that adds depth and dimension to your decor, and cool moody lighting.

If your venue doesn’t provide all the furniture - look for some antique chairs or dark sofas to add that dark academia vibe. You can use book props - but they are so easily damaged. Drinks can spill.

Floral Arrangements

Embrace the dark side with moody blooms in deep, dramatic hues. Think burgundy roses, black calla lilies, and dark dahlias mixed with lush greenery and textural elements like feathers or dried botanicals.
Tip - If you’re taking your flowers home with you, Chrysanthemums last a while!

Add in touches of foliage such as ivy or eucalyptus to enhance the natural beauty of your surroundings.

Or better yet - FORAGE! It’s free to forage and you can have more foliage without spending the wedding budget.

And there you have it – the key ingredients for creating a dark wedding decor that exudes timeless sophistication.

You only have your wedding day once, so let your personality come out! After all, your wedding day is a celebration of your unique story and style.

So go ahead, get creative, and make some magic happen!
